Must-see of the day: Broken Bells What happens when you combine two of the most talented names in the music industry? This happens. Broken Bells, composed of James Mercer (of the Shins) and producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse, released their first self-titled album in 2010. Although it was thought to be a one-time collaboration, they released a follow up album, "After the Disco", in February of this year. Expect some stripped-down performances of songs like "Angel and the Fool", "October", or "The Changing Lights", but also be ready to get your groove on when "After the Disco" and "Holding on For Life" come on. If you want an unforgettable experience, 1 part groove and 1 part soothe, from a superstar duo of talent, go see Broken Bells from 6:30-7:30 at the Samsung Galaxy stage. | Broken Bells Playlist |
The WHY? conflict of the day: Portugal. The Man/Broken Bells vs. CHVRCHES
Although you could technically see both bands, you would have to sacrifice great positioning at Broken Bells to see CHVRCHES from the back.
12 pm - 1 pm
Who I'm seeing: Roadkill Ghost Choir (12-12:30)
Catch if you can: Highly Suspect (12-12:40), San Fermin (12:15-1)
Roadkill Ghost Choir, a folk-rock group out of Florida, have released two singles from their debut album "In Tongues" coming out August 19. In addition, they released an EP in 2012, featuring a banjo-heavy and empowering hit "Beggars' Guild". Releasing "Black Ocean EP" in 2013, Highly Suspect are known for their energetic live performances. With a harder rock sound comparative to Queens of the Stone Age and Pink Floyd, Highly Suspect is expecting a new album out soon.

1 pm - 2 pm Who I'm seeing: Kodaline (1:30-2:30) Catch if you can: Temples (1-1:45) Coming out of Dublin, Kodaline has been gaining traction from their debut album "In a Perfect World", released in 2013. The album features upbeat jams like "After the Fall", "Brand New Day", and "Love Like This", but also emotional and soulful ballads, such as hit "All I Want" and "All Comes Down", that exhibit lead singer Steve Garrigan's high-flying vocals. Temples is a psychedelic rock group from England whose sound is reminiscent of certain 60s and 70s bands, namely the Beatles. Temples' debut album "Sun Structures" was released in 2014. | Kodaline Playlist |

3 pm - 5:30 pm Who I'm seeing: Portugal. The Man (4:30-5:30) Catch if you can: Hozier (3:45-4:45), Jagwar Ma (3:30-4:15) Portugal. The Man has enjoyed great success from their latest album "Evil Friends", and delivers a chilling live performance. Their setlist will feature danceable jams like "Modern Jesus" and "Purple Yellow Red and Blue", as well as chill but still great tunes, such as "Sleep Forever". Hozier is making strides in the alternative music community, mainly thanks to his hit "Take Me To Church". His oeuvre doesn't end there, however. Hozier has two EPs out, and should make for a very good live show. | Portugal. The Man Playlist |

They will put on a great show, but I will be camped out for Broken Bells. From the UK, The Kooks' are best known for their feel-good indie rock jams "She Moves in Her Own Way", "Junk of The Heart (Happy)", and "Always Where I Need to Be", as well as hit "Naive".

8 pm - 10 pm Who I'm seeing: Arctic Monkeys (8:30-10) Catch if you can: Phantogram (8:45-9:45) Arctic Monkeys might as well be considered a must see. With the massive success of their most recent album "AM", the Arctic Monkeys are becoming one of the most popular rock bands of their generation, and rightly so. Led by ultra-talented guitarist and lead singer Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys will bring a big crowd and even bigger energy. The lights won't disappoint, either. Their performance at Glastonbury 2013 says all you need to know. | |
